It’s summer time! Aside from the traditional summer outings, provincial vacation and travels, students will be very much interested in finding summer jobs and workshop not only to be more productive on the warmest season of the year, but also to learn new knowledge , enhance their skills, and have lots of fun. In response to this, we’ve created this 3Day Summer Weekend Photography Workshop to be conducted by Mr. Reynaldo Mendoza with the theme: “Drawing with Light on the Summer Height”. Hands-on Photography workshop – covering the fundamentals of photography, excellent starting point for beginners , review of the basics and guaranteed learning!

  • April 27 – Advanced Photography Workshop
  • May 4 – Image Post-Processing Workshop with Photoshop and Lightroom

As part of this activity, I designed a Christmas greeting card using my 2nd photo. I created my own Christmas tree in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and add it to the photo with differing size and opacity level…I find it really amazing and beautiful — its my first bokeh shot with my own design to finish it…Hoping for a good mark!!

Principles of Interaction Design

 

The Principles of Interaction Design

Interaction Design and other related stuffs of different use and purposes are very much in demand nowadays. It is something that satisfies and helps us in many of our needs; the one click away technology has been a huge answer, bringing huge advantages in making an easier and more awesome life. But do you know that before an interactive design can be launch, use or transferred to the web, it undergoes series of procedures, brainstorming, researches, trial and errors, and coding?. Never did we realize that these magnificent interfaces which beautifies our lives undergone series of tests before it makes it to our eyes, we just thought that these were just an addition to the many websites out there and not by far different from those websites, another product of somebody’s clever mind with better interface that will compete to the market and will set the new standards for interaction design. For most of us who have a good foundation for html coding and conceptualization, this thingy is just a piece of cake, but are you sure that your design follows certain points to consider or the so-called “principles” to make sure that your product will make it to the market? Or better yet, are you confident enough to say that your design will pass these “principles”?

 

There are 5 Principles of Interaction Design, and there is this one which we all could consider the most important. In Interaction Design, we should always observe 1) Consistency, 2) Perceivability, 3) Learnability, 4) Predictability, and 5) Feedback; but with the observance of these principles, are you sure that your site is useful?

Consistency is not simply #1 because of alphabetical considerations of some sort but is first on the list because this principally aims to set the mood and more likely, the trust as well of the viewer to your site. Your interface should have a consistent flow of navigation that won’t get your viewers confused, most people notice changes easily and this attracts unwanted attention. Changes such as those in the setup of drop downs, positioning of each button, or maybe even colors and typefaces should be avoided. We can somehow relate consistency to perceivability. Perceivability deals with the interaction by perceiving through the senses such as that of visual cues, auditory, etc. This somehow involves the systems of hyperlinks and CSS; perhaps whenever you move your mouse all through the interface, there are reactions such as those that suggest or inform you that it is a button or a hyperlink, that surely makes an interaction as it suggest clicking for further information or to learn more. Consistency can highly affect Perceivability because if on the first place the developer fails to make a consistent navigation, the viewer might not perceive interactive cues. Learnability is pretty much a basic thing; it is just about making interaction simpler and easier. My professor told us that you are a good interactive designer if your grandma can understand and use your design. Predictability, on the other hand, is all about “setting accurate expectations” and can actually be inclined to consistency and learnability. Consistent outcome and process! Something we can predict because we know the systems and it has one and the same outcome. A simpler interface means easier to learn system that once we get the logic, we can actually predict the answer to every move, what to do on matters that confuses you, and what to do to achieve a certain outcome. After all these, there is this one that will validate all the efforts, Feedback. Feedback is the most crucial and definitely the most important part of an interactive project. Your project is primarily about interaction, and without feedback I don’t think you get to attain your goals. But above these 5 principles, the Usability of your product will rise and will be the downstream of your project. Usability covers how useful and how easy to use your output was. And its general law which is “Don’t make me think” I guess says it all, attaining this rule could give multiple benefits such as increase in productivity, decrease training and support costs, increase enrollment, reduce development, and reduce maintenance. Usability can also cover the flexibility of your design as people of today don’t limit themselves with the faculties of the computer, but uses numerous forms of gadgets plus its flexibility to all types of people: young or old, rich or poor, educated or not, disabled or not.

All these principles are important and useful most especially in the planning stage. These can do no wrong; it will actually make a firm stand for your technical skills and thorough understanding of the field. Its perfection and mastery will take some time but definitely is worth the ride. This surely is good foundation and a real-deal pressure to my ass.

3 Types of Photographs

There are three common forms of photos that a common photographer could have in his bucket of image files.

1. Photos that you Find

 – This kind of photo is, base on its category name itself, something that you find either by chance or by intension. If you intend to find one, well there are alot outside your niches, just choose the best angle and make magic. I have a sample here, there are some technicalities but good enough to be an example.

2. Photos that you Take

 – This time, it is a photo which you take intentionally; maybe in an event, you aiming to catch a one’s in a lifetime image.

 

3. Photos that you Make

 – Well this is the creative form of photos, something that you aim to produce with creative consideration. One form of this could be Product Photography as you make a specific position with a specific angle to produce an output that you want.

Design Process

 

Do you remember your mom teaching you how to walk? or how to do things? Procedures, steps, process and many other terms, these are terms which simply pertains to you improving yourself, be organize and succeed. Just like the message of a line in the song Crawl by Chris Brown “if we crawl, ’til we can walk again…and we’ll run until we’re strong enough to jump, then we’ll fly until there is no wind”, it kind of reminds us that everything will never be perfect on the first shot, we follow steps, look at every point, and perfect. The design process is not a hard task at all, but neither a simple nor an easy one. It takes a lot of understanding and practice as well to be a proficient practitioner. 

There are 3 Design Process that I’ve learned today courtesy of Lynda.com through my professor. You know what I always think that it’s an advantage to be with someone who has all the resources, advantage talaga. These are Traditional Waterfall, Agile and Hybrid.

Traditional Waterfall is somewhat the most used one since everyone make use of it. From the name itself, it is a process where you can’t proceed in doing the next step without achieving the one prior to it. The process includes Define, Design, Develop Solution, and Deploy.

Agile is a method usually used by companies I think because it make use of different teams to attain the goals of a certain project. Example Sprint 1 for Team1, Sprint 2 for Team 2 and so on, which means you doing your task simultaneously.

Hybrid ….forget it. I’m so sorry I totally forgot about it. I’ll get back to you when I remember. hehe.

Generally, we have a fundamental Design Process which applies to all design works that we have. Define-Ideate-Design-Prototype-Observe.

Defining your Problem will help you  know if and how you solve hit, research is always inclined to it as this will help you define and generate solutions to your problems. Ideate and explore solutions; from 10 valid solutions, choose the 3 strongest ones and generate the best 1 from it. Start designing and prototyping, test your models and iterate it until its ready. And finally, monitor its performance.

Following these steps surely will dictate your position in the industry. These steps were all vital, something that will give you an advantage in the corporate world. Mastering it will take some time, but it will be worth it. Good luck.

InterActive Media

Who would have ever thought from those simple smoke signals, cave paintings, symbols,  tools with stone wedges, abacus, and many others, our world have made it to computers, touch screen phones, and definitely, the wonders of the internet. From those start, our minds has created superb ideas contributing so much to our fast innovating world. Simple tools with simple use; they all were made to make life easier, better, and more interesting. Interaction is the main key to make these thing work; you make it, use it, be satisfied, and use it again. Improving it is always in the course of its use, the fact that each material is, most especially when it’s new, not at its perfect state, thus making it more interesting to study and develop its capability. It is the idea that make things what it is now; people become interested  which makes them ask for more, they dig deeper not only to satisfy themselves, but for the benefit of many others.

InterActive Media is the front of all these new innovations now. Everything under the sun, well mostly those media stuffs, fall under these category of multimedia for 2 reasons: i. because of its wider reach, lesser cost, and impact, and ii. is because most of these media files consists of the mediums for interaction design. Well, this commonly refers to things that are digital and is not limited to audio, video, games, animation, and web; most of them possess all, or if not, most of these features that allows interaction between the computer or the device and its user. Mostly, they were all for human use, for business, education, home, leisure and entertainment. Nowadays, there are multiple ways and places to experience this kind of innovation; leading is of course the social media which  through time develops multiple features not only to for communication but also for entertainment as well, others include interactive television, websites, and video games. But sure did this is not a piece of cake, investment on studying, bigger imagination, and understanding its logic plus the application of theories and other sciences are your baseline to be on top in this kind of media. Do consider that an artwork which aims to be interactive is interactive if and only if it does affect somebody either through emotions or by thinking.

For me, one of the most important part of the history of the evolution of our technology to reach its state right now it through the launching of the manmade satellite in space. The main use of these “satellite” is to build connections in the whole world through the technology of the internet. Internet will be useless if this device is not invented and launched. The goal of building connections from the North to South, East to West wing of the world, will be impossible and will only be possible through its launch.

InterActive Media is one of the concentrations of my 5 months study this semester. Think I still need so much time to build something incredible in preparation for my Final Project…Think, I’ll keep you updated..
